Facebook Marketplace Pakistan: how to sell as a business

Storelala Team

What Meta’s own pages say about selling on Marketplace from Pakistan, and why selling as a business can cost you access. Then the work itself: listings that get messages, fast replies, fake payment screenshots, and cash on delivery to buyers in other cities.

Is Facebook Marketplace available in Pakistan?

Yes. Facebook opened Marketplace to users in Pakistan in July 2021, as Dawn reported at the time, and Pakistan is on Meta’s list of countries where Marketplace is available.

If the Marketplace icon is missing on your account, the same Meta page lists why. You may:

  • Have a new or inactive account.
  • Be on an additional Facebook profile instead of your main one.
  • Not be an adult, or not have confirmed your age.
  • Have broken the Terms or the Commerce Policies before.
  • Not be logged in.

To check, go to your profile, open Profile status and pick Marketplace under Extra features. Use the Facebook app on your phone; Meta says Marketplace is available from the Android and iPhone apps. Since a new account is one of Meta’s reasons for no access, sell from the account you already use rather than a fresh profile made only to sell.

What Meta allows a business to do

Read this before you list twenty products. Meta’s Commerce Policies say Marketplace is intended for consumer-to-consumer sales. The access page goes further: “Businesses that list on Marketplace may be blocked and/or have their listings removed.” The extra restrictions Meta names apply to the EEA, the Philippines and India, not Pakistan, but the general line still applies to you.

In practice, that means:

  • List from your profile, like a person. A few products at a time, each with its own real photos. Meta also says it may limit how often you can list, to stop misuse.
  • Use Marketplace to find buyers, not to run the shop. Your catalog, order list and repeat buyers should live somewhere you control.
  • Expect a rejected listing now and then. If one is rejected, Profile status shows why, and you can request a review.

Some products are not allowed at all. From Meta’s list of things that cannot be listed and the Commerce Policies, the ones Pakistani sellers trip on most:

  • Replicas and “master copy” items. Counterfeits, knockoffs and replicas of branded goods are banned, and so are goods that copy another brand’s name or logo.
  • Health products and supplements. Medical and healthcare products are not allowed, including medical devices and ingestible supplements.
  • Used or unboxed cosmetics. Cosmetics must be unused and in their original packaging.
  • Services. Stitching, mehndi or makeup as a service is not a Marketplace item.
  • Animals, digital products, gift cards and event tickets. Animals and downloadable products or accounts are banned; gift cards and tickets only from approved sellers.

Repeat breaks can limit or suspend your Marketplace access, and Meta says it may act on your whole account.

The sale happens in chat

Meta’s pages on selling with shipping and checkout on Facebook both say these features are not available in all locations. Plan as if you have neither. A Marketplace sale in Pakistan usually runs like this:

  1. The buyer taps “Is this available?” or sends their own message.
  2. You agree the price, size or colour and how it reaches them, in Messenger.
  3. In your city, they pick up or you deliver, and they pay cash on the spot.
  4. In another city, you book a courier on cash on delivery and they pay the rider.

Meta also says local pickup sales paid person to person are not covered by Purchase Protection, and Facebook does not refund them. The deal is between you and the buyer.

Listings that get messages

Marketplace is local and buyers can sort by distance, so your listing competes with sellers near you. What makes someone message:

  • A title with what buyers type. “Embroidered lawn 3 piece, unstitched, sea green” beats “Gulnaz 07”. Product first, then fabric, size or colour.
  • The real price. A Rs 1 or Rs 100 bait price brings messages that end the moment you say the real one.
  • Your own photos, several of them. Meta’s own tip is original photos rather than a company’s website picture. Daylight, the full product, then close-ups of fabric, stitching or the label. The free white background tool cleans up a messy room behind the product.
  • A description that answers the DM. Size in inches, fabric, what is in the box, new or used. Our guide on writing product descriptions has a structure to copy, and the product description generator drafts one in English or Roman Urdu. Selling clothes you have worn? Our guide on how to sell used clothes online covers condition grades and showing flaws.
  • Delivery in one line. “Pickup in Gulberg, or cash on delivery anywhere in Pakistan, Rs 250 delivery.” Use your own area and your own charge.
  • Mark sold or pending. When you do, Meta tells everyone who messaged you, and you stop answering for stock you no longer have.

Reply fast, with the answers ready

A buyer can message several sellers about the same thing in a minute, so a clear answer that comes first has the edge. Keep a note on your phone with replies you can paste:

  • “Available hai?” Yes, the price, and one question back: “Which size?” or “Pickup or delivery?”
  • “Last price?” Decide your lowest price before you list, so you answer once.
  • “Lahore se bahar bhejte hain?” Yes, cash on delivery, the delivery charge, and how many days.
  • “Aur pics?” Have the close-ups ready in an album on your phone.

Answer even when the item is gone, and point to the closest thing you have. A buyer who got a straight reply often comes back for the next one.

Moving buyers to WhatsApp and your store

Messenger is fine for one item. When a buyer wants to see more, or is ready to order for delivery, offer to carry on in WhatsApp, where your WhatsApp Business catalog shows the rest of your stock.

Two things to keep in mind:

  • Keep the Messenger thread. Meta’s safety tips advise keeping conversations on Facebook so there is a record if something goes wrong. Move to WhatsApp once the buyer is serious, and do not delete the chat.
  • Make ordering one tap. The free WhatsApp order link generator makes a link that opens a chat with the order message already typed.

For buyers who want to browse everything, send them to your store, where they see every product with sizes and prices and place the order themselves. That is one order with a name, phone and address, not a chat you have to copy into a notebook.

Scams that target sellers

Marketplace brings strangers, and some are not buyers. The common ones, with what to do:

  • The fake payment screenshot. “Bhai JazzCash kar diya, screenshot dekh lein.” A screenshot is a picture and can be edited. Open your own JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank app and check the balance. No money in your account, no handover, no parcel.
  • The overpayment. The buyer “sends” more than the price and asks you to return the extra. Meta’s safety tips say to reject overpayments, especially when the buyer wants the difference back.
  • The code request. Someone asks for a code that just arrived on your phone “to confirm the order”. That code opens your WhatsApp, Facebook or wallet. Meta says never share verification codes, and Facebook will never ask for your password.
  • The payment link. A link to “receive” money or pay a courier fee. Meta’s advice: avoid payment links and sign in through the payment app itself.
  • The fake buyer for your address. For pickup, meet somewhere public, as Meta suggests, or deliver yourself. Do not give your home address to every first message.

Buyers worry about the same thing from the other side: paying an advance to a seller who then disappears. That is the best reason to offer cash on delivery: the buyer pays when the parcel is in their hands, and you never have to argue about screenshots.

Buyers in other cities: COD by courier

Marketplace shows you to people nearby, but a buyer from another city will still message if the product is right. To sell to them:

  1. Open a COD account with a courier. TCS, Leopards, PostEx, Trax and others collect the cash and pay you back. Our courier comparison covers how fast each one returns the money, and the Urdu guide on opening a courier COD account covers the papers.
  2. Price the delivery before you quote. The courier charges calculator works out the parcel’s chargeable weight and compares courier rates, so the delivery charge you quote is a real number.
  3. Confirm before you book. A WhatsApp message or call with the order, the total and the address. A buyer who does not confirm does not get a parcel.
  4. Count the refused parcels. A refused COD parcel costs you the courier both ways. Put your price, costs and return rate into the COD profit calculator, and read our guide to reducing COD returns.

Marketplace, groups or a Page

Facebook gives you three places to sell, and they do different jobs.

  • Marketplace: local buyers searching for a product right now. Listed from your profile, and meant for people rather than businesses, so treat it as a source of new buyers, not a home.
  • Buy and sell groups: city groups and product groups where people ask “where can I get this?”. Meta says they follow the same Commerce Policies, and each admin sets their own rules on when and how you can post. Read them first.
  • A Facebook Page: your brand’s name, posts and reviews, and where your ads run from. Our Urdu guide on running Facebook ads covers the setup.

A sensible split: list on Marketplace, answer in groups, and keep the Page as the brand. Instagram works the same way; see our guide to selling on Instagram in Pakistan, and getting your first customers online for the rest.

When to add your own store

Marketplace can be switched off for your account with one rejected listing too many, and every buyer you found there lives in a Messenger thread. Add your own store when:

  • You answer the same size, price and delivery questions twenty times a day.
  • You have more products than you can list one by one.
  • Orders come from Marketplace, groups, Instagram and WhatsApp, and you track them in a notebook.
  • You want buyers to come back to your brand, not search Marketplace again.

Keep listing on Marketplace for new local buyers. The store is where they order, see the rest of the range, and come back.

Questions sellers ask

Is Facebook Marketplace available in Pakistan?

Yes. Facebook launched Marketplace in Pakistan in July 2021, and Pakistan is on Meta’s own list of countries where Marketplace is available. You need to be an adult with an active Facebook account, and it works best from the Facebook app on Android or iPhone.

Why is Facebook Marketplace not showing on my account in Pakistan?

Meta lists the usual reasons: the account is new or inactive, you are on an additional profile instead of your main one, you are not an adult, you are not logged in, or the account broke the Terms or Commerce Policies. Check Profile status, then Marketplace under Extra features, to see if your access was limited, and try the Facebook app on your phone.

Can a business sell on Facebook Marketplace in Pakistan?

Meta says Marketplace is meant for people buying and selling, and that businesses which list on it may be blocked or have their listings removed. Pakistan is not one of the regions Meta names for extra restrictions, but the general rule still applies. Sell from your own profile like a person, follow the Commerce Policies, and do not rely on Marketplace as your only channel.

Does Facebook Marketplace have checkout or shipping in Pakistan?

Meta’s help pages say shipping and checkout on Marketplace are not available in all locations. Plan as if neither exists: the buyer messages you, you agree the deal in chat, and payment happens off Facebook, either cash on pickup in your city or cash on delivery by courier to other cities.

Is it safe to accept a JazzCash or Easypaisa payment screenshot from a Marketplace buyer?

No. A screenshot is a picture and can be edited. Open your own JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank app and check the balance before you hand over or ship anything. If a buyer pays more than the price and asks for the difference back, refuse, as Meta’s own safety tips advise.

Storelala is the Shopify alternative in Pakistan: your own store at yourbrand.storelala.com, cash on delivery, JazzCash and Easypaisa built into checkout, no marketplace commission, and free to start with no card needed. Run it from your phone: book PostEx, Leopards or TCS from the order screen, and the tracking number goes to your buyer on WhatsApp. Start your store before your next Marketplace listing goes up.
