Start an online business without investment in Pakistan

Storelala Team

No investment never means no spending, but it can mean never paying for stock before a buyer exists. Here are four ways to sell that start that way, the free tools that replace paid ones, how to turn the first profit into stock, and the mistakes that cost beginners the most.

Most lists of ways to make money online without investment are about earning: freelancing, apps, surveys. This guide is about selling, where a buyer pays you for a product or a service. If you are still choosing what to sell, start with our online business ideas in Pakistan and the checks in what to sell online, then come back here for how to start with almost no money.

What “no investment” really means

No investment means you do not buy stock before a buyer exists, you do not rent a shop, and you do not pay for a website. It does not mean you spend nothing. Expect to pay for:

  • Your time. Photos, replies, confirming orders, packing. This is the real investment.
  • Phone data and calls. You will be on WhatsApp all day.
  • Packing. Flyers, tape, a printed slip. Small per order, but it is per order.
  • One sample. You should hold, wear or taste what you sell before a stranger does.
  • The odd returned parcel. On cash on delivery, some buyers refuse at the door, and the courier still charges you.

So the honest goal is not zero spending. It is never paying for something before you know a buyer wants it. The four models below all follow that rule.

Made to order with an advance

You show what you can make, the buyer orders, pays part of the price in advance by bank transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and only then do you buy material and make it. Stitched suits, custom cakes, name jewellery, printed tees, embroidered pieces and gift hampers all work this way.

  • Take the advance before you cut, bake or print. A made-to-order piece fits one buyer. If she refuses the parcel, nobody else will buy it.
  • Make the advance cover your material. For example, if the fabric and lining for a suit cost you Rs 2,500, ask for at least that much up front. Then a cancellation costs you your time, not your savings.
  • Write the order down and send it back. Size, colour, name spelling, delivery date, total, advance received. A screenshot of that message can settle an argument later.
  • Show one real piece. Make one for yourself or a relative and photograph it. Buyers want to see your work, not a picture from Pinterest.

A supplier’s stock, with permission

A wholesaler or maker holds the stock. You show their products, take the order, and either they ship it to your buyer or you buy the piece only after the order comes in. It is a way to start with no money for stock. Our guide to dropshipping in Pakistan explains who books the courier and who gets the cash, and wholesale suppliers in Pakistan covers finding a supplier and asking for samples.

Three rules keep it from going wrong:

  • Ask before you use their photos. Ask in writing whether you may post their pictures under your own page name. Some say yes, some do not, and a seller who reposts without asking can be reported and lose the page.
  • Order one to yourself first. Pay for one piece, have it sent to your address the way a buyer would get it, and check the quality, the packing and how long it took. That one order is your sample.
  • Agree what happens on a return. Who pays the return charge, and when you get paid your margin. Get both answers in writing before the first order.

Sell a service you already do

If people in your family already ask you to stitch, bake or do their makeup, you have a business that needs no stock. The buyer pays for your skill, and the material is bought per order or brought by the client.

  • Stitching. Clients send their own fabric, you charge for the work. Our Urdu guide to silai ka kaam online covers taking measurements from another city and rate lists by design.
  • Baking. Cakes and desserts made to order for your own city, with an advance. The home bakery guide covers costing each piece and food rules.
  • Makeup and mehndi. Booked by date, with an advance to hold the slot. See the makeup artist business guide for packages and cancellation terms.

Services start with the least money of all. The limit is your hours, so put a price on them from the first order, even for people you know.

One small batch

If you have a little money, buy a few pieces of one product you already understand as a buyer: a handful of unstitched suits, some artificial jewellery, a few hijabs. Owning the stock means you control the photos, the packing and how fast it ships.

  • One product, two or three variants. Not a full range.
  • Something that cannot spoil or break. Fabric and accessories forgive a beginner; glass and food do not.
  • Sell it through before you buy again. Reorder what went first, not what you liked most.

Before you buy, put the cost, courier charge and a returns allowance into the COD profit calculator. If a delivered order leaves you almost nothing, choose another product now, not after the batch arrives.

Free tools instead of paid ones

You do not need a designer, a photographer or paid apps to look like a proper store on day one. These free tools cover most of what a new seller would otherwise pay for:

Turning the first profit into stock

The first few weeks are about proof, not income. Once orders come in, the money has to be split the same way every time, or it disappears into the house.

  • Keep business money apart. A separate account or wallet, even a separate envelope. Every advance and every COD payout goes in, every supplier payment comes out.
  • Put the cost back first. From each delivered order, set aside what the product, packing and courier cost you before you count anything as profit.
  • Grow one step at a time. For example: three orders taken on advance, then buy two extra pieces of the design that sold, then five, then ten. Each step is paid for by the last one.
  • Write every order in one sheet. What sold, what came back, what you kept. After a month that sheet tells you what to stock, which no list of ideas can.

What not to do

  • No loans or committee money for stock before proof. Borrowing to buy a big first batch turns a slow month into a debt. Borrow, if ever, to restock something that has already sold out more than once. If you are weighing a government scheme, the home-based business guide lists the official one and the loan markup calculator shows what you would pay back.
  • No paid “earning” schemes. Apps and groups that ask for a joining fee, a deposit to get tasks, or for you to recruit others are not businesses. In a real one, the buyer pays you.
  • No ads before your first sales. Sell to people who already follow you or know you. Ads multiply something that works; they do not find out whether it works.
  • No other brands’ logos or photos without permission. Copies and borrowed pictures get pages reported, and your page is the one asset you built for free.
  • No shipping without a confirmation call. One call or WhatsApp message before booking catches fake orders. Our guide to reducing COD returns covers the rest.

Your own store

Starting without money is also a reason to get your own store early. Each product gets its own page with your photos, sizes and price, buyers pay by cash on delivery, JazzCash, Easypaisa or card without waiting for your reply, and there is no marketplace commission taken from each sale. You book PostEx, Leopards or TCS from the order screen, and the tracking number goes to your buyer on WhatsApp. For made-to-order pieces, keep taking the advance by transfer before you start work.

Questions people ask

Can I start an online business in Pakistan without investment?

You can start without buying stock, renting a shop or paying for a website. You still spend your time and a little money on phone data, packing and perhaps one sample. The models that work are made to order with an advance, selling a supplier’s stock with their permission, selling a service you already do, and reselling one small batch.

Which online business is best without investment for students?

Selling a supplier’s stock after the buyer orders, or a skill you already have, such as stitching, baking or makeup for friends and family. Both need no stock. Pick something light that does not break in a courier bag, and make sure someone can answer the phone when buyers call to confirm.

What business can I start with 10,000 rupees in Pakistan?

A small first batch of one product you already know as a buyer, or the materials for a few made-to-order pieces. Spend most of it on the product and keep part back for packing and one returned parcel. Do not spend it on ads before a single person you know has bought.

Are online earning apps that ask for a deposit real?

Treat any app, group or ‘business plan’ that asks you to pay to join, deposit money to get tasks, or recruit others as a scheme, not a business. A real selling business earns when a buyer pays for a product or service, not when you pay someone first.

Do I need to register a business before I start selling online?

For income tax, FBR’s Income Tax Circular 01 of 2025–26 says sellers using an online marketplace or their own e-store must register, and that couriers and marketplaces should not serve unregistered sellers. For an individual that is an NTN on FBR’s IRIS portal, which is your CNIC number. Our guide to registering an online business in Pakistan covers the steps.

Is dropshipping a business without investment in Pakistan?

It is the closest thing to one. A supplier holds the stock and ships to your buyer, often on their own courier account, and pays you your margin after delivery. You depend on the supplier for quality, speed and paying you, so test them with one order to yourself first.

Storelala is the Shopify alternative in Pakistan: your own store at yourbrand.storelala.com, cash on delivery, JazzCash, Easypaisa and cards at checkout, and no marketplace commission.
