Wholesale markets in Lahore: what each sells, and what to check
Buy cloth and ladies suits at Azam Cloth Market, gold at Sarafa Bazar, and accessories and cosmetics at Shah Alam. Here is what each Lahore market sells, what dated sources say about closing times and fires, and how to bargain, check a batch and pay.
Which Lahore market sells what
As of October 2026, go to Azam Cloth Market for fabric and ladies suits, Kinari Bazaar for embroidered cloth, Sarafa Bazar for gold and silver, the Bangle Market for bangles, Moti Bazaar for shoes, and Shah Alam for accessories, cosmetics and general goods. Nearly all sit in the Walled City. The table draws on the Walled City of Lahore Authority’s page on its bazaars, which we read in October 2026, plus the dated Dawn reports we name. The page is undated, so we use it only for what each bazaar sells and where. Hall Road is missing because we found no dated report on what it sells wholesale.
| Market | Where | What the source says it sells |
|---|---|---|
| Azam Cloth Market | Inside Delhi Gate | Cloth from khaddar to silk, ready-to-wear and bridal wear; about 12,000 shops (Dawn, February 3, 2022) |
| Kinari Bazaar | Near Rang Mahal Chowk, inside Shah Alam Gate | Embroidered cloth for weddings and festivals |
| Gumti Bazaar | Next to Kinari Bazaar | Unstitched bridal dresses, some with minor defects, new and secondhand |
| Shah Alam | On the site of the old Shah Alam Gate | Accessories, cosmetics, electronics, handicrafts, antiques, stationery, crockery; genuine items and counterfeits |
| Sarafa Bazar | Rang Mahal Chowk | Gold trading, melting, handmade gold and silver jewellery |
| Bangle Market | Inside Masti Gate | Wholesale bangles, new and old |
| Pappar Mandi | Between Shah Alam Gate and Lohari Gate | Herbs, perfumes and plastic bottles |
| Moti Bazaar | Walled City | The wholesale shoe market |
| Wacho Wali Bazaar | Near Rang Mahal Chowk, at the end of Sarafa Bazar | Silver items; shoe raw materials such as rexine sheets and beads |
| Sheikhupurian Bazaar | Inside Taxali Gate | Leather khussas and Kolhapuri chappals, wholesale and retail |
| Anarkali and Bano Bazaar | On the outskirts of Old Lahore City | Glass bangles and artificial jewellery in Bano Bazaar (Dawn, February 7, 2010); the guide does not call it wholesale |
Rang Mahal Chowk ties Sarafa Bazar, Kinari Bazaar and Wacho Wali Bazaar together on the Authority’s page, so use it as the landmark when you ask directions. Our only source for Anarkali is that 2010 Dawn guide, so call a shop before you travel. No source we found gives a wholesale rate per lot or a minimum order for any bazaar, so every rate in this article is something you must ask for. Our guide to wholesale suppliers in Pakistan explains how to tell a manufacturer from a reseller once you are in a shop.
Cloth and ladies suits: Azam, Kinari and Gumti
The Authority describes Azam Cloth Market as a maze of linked bazaars, often shaded from the sun, and Dawn put it at about 12,000 shops on February 3, 2022. You will not see it all in a day, so go with a list: the fabric, colours or design you want, and the most you will pay per piece.
Kinari Bazaar is the specialist for embroidered cloth. Gumti Bazaar, next door, sells mostly unstitched bridal dresses, which the Authority calls more affordable, some with minor defects. It also says Gumti has rental shops, so a dress on a rack may have been worn. If a piece is cheaper for a defect, ask what the defect is and photograph it before you pay. Our guide to starting a clothing brand in Pakistan covers what to do with the cloth afterwards.
For unstitched ladies suits, ask three things at the counter. These are our suggestions, not published rules.
- Is the rate per suit, per dozen, per metre or gaz, or per full roll (thaan)? The same number is different money in each.
- Do the shirt, dupatta and trouser piece come from the same print and batch? Unroll and measure each, because a short piece makes the suit unsellable as complete.
- Is the stock the shop’s own make, or bought from a mill or a bigger dealer?
Shah Alam, Sarafa, shoes and the other trades
Shah Alam: accessories, cosmetics and copies
The Authority says outright that Shah Alam sells genuine items and counterfeits, and that goods may be brand new, reconditioned or spare parts. For an online seller that is the main risk, because a fake cosmetic or a copied accessory sold as original ends as a refund request or a complaint.
At every counter ask whether the item is original, whether it is new, and who the brand’s distributor is if it claims to be original. Buy one piece first and keep the bill; if the shopkeeper will not give you a bill with a name and number, buy elsewhere. For cosmetics, check the manufacturing date, expiry date and batch number on the pack, and refuse a carton where any is missing. Perfumes and attar bottles are a separate trade, listed in Pappar Mandi. Read how to start a cosmetic brand in Pakistan before you buy a carton.
Jewellery and bangles
At a gold or silver counter in Sarafa Bazar:
- Ask for the weight, the purity and the making charge as three separate lines on the bill, and have the piece weighed on the shop’s scale while you watch.
- For a first purchase, buy one plain piece and have a second jeweller value it before you buy a lot.
For bangles and artificial jewellery, ask whether a set is new or old stock, and count the bangles in every box. Our guide on the artificial jewellery business covers what to look for in the stock.
Shoes, eyewear and bottles
At Moti Bazaar, Wacho Wali Bazaar or Sheikhupurian Bazaar, ask for sizes in a full run before you ask for a rate, because a lot missing your common sizes is hard to sell online. In Pappar Mandi, fill one bottle and test the lid for leaks before you buy fifty.
Opening hours and fires: what is dated, and what to ask
Opening hours
As of October 2026, we found no single order that settles when a Lahore wholesale market closes, and no Punjab order dated after September 20, 2026. These are the dated facts.
- Dawn, June 4, 2026, on Punjab’s notification: shops, markets and bazaars close at 9pm every day, Sunday included; wedding halls at 10pm and restaurants at 11pm. The Nation, the same day, says this extends the previous 8pm closing by one hour, until further orders.
- On September 17, 2026, the federal government set a 9pm closing for shops, markets, malls and bazaars (Dawn).
- Dawn, September 20, 2026: Punjab was still undecided after three sessions with traders, who did not want early closing.
So the latest dated Punjab rule is 9pm daily, the same hour as the federal order. No dated source gives an opening time, a weekly closed day or a special rule for the Walled City wholesale bazaars. Plan to finish buying by 9pm, earlier if you travel from another city. Before you travel, call the market’s traders association or a shop in the row you are visiting, and ask when it opens, when it closes and whether it opens on Sunday.
Fires: check the building first
As of October 2026, we found reports of three fires in Lahore’s wholesale markets this year, none with deaths in the articles we read.
- May 5, 2026. A fire on the seventh floor of the Malik Salamat Jewellery plaza in Shah Alam (24NewsHD).
- July 1, 2026. A fire in a fourth-floor cloth warehouse at MZ Plaza in New Azam Cloth Market, near Sheranwala Gate (Daily Pakistan).
- September 22 and 23, 2026. A fire that started on the fourth floor of Fatima Plaza, a seven-storey building in Shah Alam, burned for nearly 14 hours. The deputy commissioner said the Building Control Authority would decide whether the building was safe to use (24NewsHD).
We found no report of that decision or of which Fatima Plaza shops are open. Call ahead and ask which floor the shop is on and whether it has reopened, and do not pay a large advance to a shop you have not seen open.
Asking for a rate, bargaining and checking the batch
Rates and minimums
Say at the start that you are buying a lot to resell. Then ask:
- The rate for one piece, for a dozen or a full lot, and whether it drops with a larger quantity.
- The smallest quantity the shop will sell at the lot rate, and whether you can mix designs and sizes inside it.
- Whether the stock is the shop’s own make. “Yeh aap ka apna maal hai ya aap bhi kahin se lete hain?” tells you if a better rate is one step up.
- What happens if a piece is faulty, written on the bill with the shop’s name and phone number.
Treat these as assumptions to test. A minimum can sit per design, per colour, per size or per order, and “a dozen” may mean twelve of one design or twelve assorted, so ask which. If the minimum is more than you can sell in a month, ask for a smaller first lot at a slightly higher rate.
Bargaining (our suggestions, not market rules): write down each rate and minimum from three shops first. Then name the rate for the whole lot, not per piece, and counter once. If the shop will not move, walk to the next row; a price that holds after you leave is the real rate. Do not bargain after the bill is written. If no Lahore rate leaves a margin after courier and returns, price the same item from abroad with our guide to duty, tax and landed cost from China.
Checking the batch before you pay
- Count the pieces against the bill, and open every piece in a dozen, not only the top few.
- On stitched clothes, tug a seam and check the hem, buttonholes, zips and linings.
- On fabric, hold a corner to the light for thin patches and ask to wet a small corner, because dye that bleeds will run in your buyer’s first wash.
- Check colour at the shop door in daylight, and measure two or three pieces against your size chart if you sell clothes or shoes. Our size chart maker helps you set one.
- Photograph any defect together with the shop board behind it, and note it on the bill before you pay.
Do this at the counter. Once you carry the bag out, the shop is unlikely to accept that a piece was faulty.
Cash, bank transfer and the bill
Ask for a bill every time: shop name, phone number, date, each item, quantity and rate. Without the shop name it is almost worthless in a dispute, and it is the only record your accountant can use. Ask for the shop’s NTN too. Two clauses of section 21 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 explain why.
- The seller’s side, section 21(s). Fifty percent of the expenditure a seller claims in respect of a sale is disallowed where the seller received payment exceeding Rs 200,000 otherwise than through a banking channel or digital means against a single invoice. FBR’s Income Tax Circular 01 of 2025–26 clarifies that cash deposited into the seller’s bank account counts as a banking channel. So a shop may ask you to pay a large lot by transfer or by depositing into its account.
- Your side, section 21(q). When you claim stock purchases as a business expense, no deduction is allowed for ten percent of the claimed expenditure attributable to purchases from persons who are not National Tax Number holders. For agricultural produce, the clause applies only to purchases from a middleman. The Board may exempt persons or classes of persons by notification, and we could not confirm any exemption for wholesale buyers, so ask your accountant. Our guide to online business tax in Pakistan covers the basics.
The Finance Act 2025 put both clauses in their present form. We checked the text in the FBR Income Tax Manual, amended up to June 30, 2026, which shows neither changed by the Finance Act 2026. Practical rule, not FBR’s: for any lot you cannot afford to lose, pay by bank transfer to a named account and keep the screenshot with the bill.
Getting stock home and to your courier
Decide how each parcel will be packed before you buy, because packing is cheaper at the shop than at home. Ask the shop to bag each piece as it counts, keep the bill with the stock, and photograph the counted pile. Hire the loader and rickshaw the day before, and ask the price first.
Ask your courier whether it collects from your home and whether it charges by actual weight or by size. Our guide to the best courier services in Pakistan compares them, and the courier charges calculator estimates the fee. If you live outside Lahore, ask the shop how it sends goods to your city and who pays the freight, write both answers on the bill, and keep the consignment slip number (the bilty, for goods sent by a transporter) until the stock arrives.
A first-visit checklist
This checklist is ours, not an official rule.
- Choose one or two markets that match your product, and set the most you can pay per piece with the profit margin calculator.
- Call the market’s traders association or a shop in each row to confirm opening time, closing time and Sunday hours, and ask whether a plaza that burned has reopened.
- Carry a measuring tape, a phone with a good camera, small notes for the loader, a power bank, and one finished piece of what you sell.
- Get a rate and a minimum from three shops for the same item, then buy one piece or one small lot first and pay by a method that leaves a record.
- Take a bill with the shop name, phone number, NTN if it has one, and the defect policy on it. Keep the consignment slip, photograph the counted pile, and unpack at home the same day so you can message the shop about any fault.
A cost example on assumed rates
Every figure below is an assumption chosen to show the arithmetic, not a market price: 12 pieces at Rs 1,500 each, a Rs 800 loader and rickshaw, Rs 60 of packaging a piece, and a selling price of Rs 2,400. Swap in your own quotes.
| Line | Working | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 12 pieces at the shop’s rate | 12 × Rs 1,500 | Rs 18,000 |
| Loader and rickshaw home | Your quote | Rs 800 |
| Packaging | 12 × Rs 60 | Rs 720 |
| Total cost | Rs 19,520 ÷ 12 = Rs 1,627 a piece | Rs 19,520 |
| Sold at Rs 2,400 | 12 × Rs 2,400 | Rs 28,800 |
| Left before courier, ads and returns | Rs 9,280 ÷ Rs 28,800 = 32% | Rs 9,280 |
That is Rs 773 a piece (Rs 2,400 minus Rs 1,627), and it is not your profit: the courier fee, ads and every parcel that comes back come out of it. Our guide to pricing products shows where those costs land.
Where your store fits
A first trip is a small batch, so start with a store that costs nothing to hold it. Storelala is the Shopify alternative built for Pakistan, with stores at yourbrand.storelala.com. Lite is free forever with cash on delivery, up to 10 products and 3 photos per product, and no fees from Storelala on any plan.
When the batch sells, Core is Rs 2,000 a month, or Rs 1,000 a month billed yearly. It adds JazzCash, Easypaisa and cards at checkout, PostEx, Leopards and TCS booked from the order screen with tracking sent to the buyer on WhatsApp, and up to 500 products. See the plans.
Questions sellers ask
What is the main wholesale market in Lahore?
Azam Cloth Market inside Delhi Gate is the main one for cloth, and Shah Alam Market on the site of the old Shah Alam Gate is the main one for accessories, cosmetics and general goods. Both sit in the Walled City, where the Walled City of Lahore Authority lists most of the bazaars named here. Pick the market by what you sell, and visit three shops before you buy.
Where can I buy ladies suits wholesale in Lahore?
Start at Azam Cloth Market for fabric and ready-to-wear, go to Kinari Bazaar for embroidered cloth for weddings and festivals, and to Gumti Bazaar next to it for unstitched bridal dresses. Ask whether the rate is per piece, per dozen or per full roll, and measure the cloth in every piece of a three-piece suit before you pay.
What is Shah Alam Market in Lahore known for?
The Walled City of Lahore Authority lists accessories, cosmetics, electronic goods, handicrafts, antiques, stationery and crockery there, and says the market sells genuine items and counterfeits. Ask whether each product is original and new before you pay, buy one piece first and keep the shop’s bill.
Where is the cosmetics wholesale market in Lahore?
The Authority lists cosmetics among the goods sold in Shah Alam Market, and perfumes and plastic bottles in Pappar Mandi, between Shah Alam Gate and Lohari Gate. We found no dated source that gives a wholesale rate or a minimum order for either, so ask three shops for the rate per carton and check the manufacturing and expiry dates on the pack.
Where is the jewellery wholesale market in Lahore?
The Authority lists Sarafa Bazar at Rang Mahal Chowk as the gold market, for gold trading, melting and handmade gold and silver jewellery, and the Bangle Market inside Masti Gate for wholesale bangles. Dawn’s 2010 shopping guide lists glass bangles and artificial jewellery in Anarkali’s Bano Bazaar. For gold and silver, ask for weight, purity and making charge as separate lines on the bill.
What time do Lahore wholesale markets close?
As of October 2026, the latest Punjab notification we found, reported on June 4, 2026, sets 9pm for shops, markets and bazaars every day of the week, until further orders. The federal government set the same 9pm on September 17, 2026, and Dawn reported on September 20 that Punjab had not decided whether to adopt it. We found no dated opening time or weekly closed day for the wholesale bazaars, so call the market’s traders association or a shop before you travel.
Should I pay cash or bank transfer at a Lahore wholesale shop?
For a large lot, pay by bank transfer and keep the receipt. Under section 21(s) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 50% of a seller’s claimed expenditure on a sale is disallowed when the seller takes more than Rs 200,000 on one invoice outside a banking channel or digital means, and FBR says cash deposited into the seller’s bank account counts as a banking channel. Under section 21(q), ten percent of what you claim on purchases from persons who are not NTN holders is disallowed. Ask for a bill with the shop’s name and phone number, and its NTN if it has one.
