Blur photo background

Add a photo with one clear subject, such as a person or a product on a table. The subject stays sharp and the background is blurred, like a portrait-mode photo. Pick light, medium or strong, and download one by one or as a zip. No sign-up, no watermark.

How much blur

A clear portrait-style blur. Good for most photos.

Drop your photos here

HEIC, JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 photos, 12 MB each

On a phone you can pick from your gallery or take a new photo.

Your photos are processed in memory and not saved. Location and camera details are removed. 20 photos every 10 minutes, no sign-up.

Works best with one person or one product. With two people, ask them to stand close together, so both stay sharp. On a plain wall there is little to blur, so the three strengths look alike. Hair, fur, glass and thin straps can come out rough at the edge, so use Compare and check each photo before you post it. A photo with no clear subject is skipped with a message. Want a plain white background instead? Use the white background maker. Want the background gone completely? Use the background remover.

Questions

How do I blur the background of a photo?

Add your photo and choose Light, Medium or Strong. The tool finds the person or product in front, keeps it sharp and blurs the rest. Use Compare to check the edge, then download the result as a JPG.

Does it work on an iPhone or Android photo?

Yes. Any JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo works, including photos from an iPhone or Samsung. The photo is sent to our server for the blur, so it needs an internet connection.

Which photos work best?

Photos with one clear subject: a person standing in front of a wall, or a product on a table. Busy photos with many people or objects at the same distance can give a rough result. Hair, fur, glass and thin straps can look a little rough at the edge.

What is the difference between light, medium and strong?

Light is a soft blur where you can still tell what is behind. Medium looks like a portrait-mode photo. Strong turns the background into soft colour and light. The blur also scales with the size of the photo, so a big photo and a small one look alike.

Will the colours of the person leak into the background?

No. The background is blurred using only the background pixels, so a dark jacket does not leave a dark halo around the person.

Do you keep my photos?

No. Each photo is processed in memory and discarded once the result is sent. You can blur 20 photos every 10 minutes.
