Land area calculator

It depends on which marla your papers use. Land records in most of Pakistan count 1 marla as 272.25 sq ft, which is 30.25 square yards. Many private housing societies count 225 sq ft, which is 25 square yards. Check your allotment letter, file or fard, and pick the same size on this page.

Measure the sides in feet. For a rectangle, multiply length by width to get square feet, then divide by the marla size, 272.25 or 225. For a plot with uneven sides, enter all four sides and a diagonal and the calculator does the sums.

1 kanal is 20 marla. With the 272.25 sq ft marla that is 5,445 sq ft. With the 225 sq ft marla it is 4,500 sq ft. To turn kanal into marla, multiply by 20. To turn marla into kanal, divide by 20.

Measure all four sides in order, then measure one diagonal that runs inside the plot. The diagonal cuts the plot into two triangles. The calculator finds each triangle with Heron’s formula and adds them. Without a diagonal it takes the corners as square, which is only close for a plot that is nearly a rectangle.

Use the one written on your papers. We could not find one rule for every city or scheme, and sources disagree for some authorities, so we do not name them. If your papers do not say, ask the society office or the patwari. A 250 sq ft marla is sometimes quoted, but we found no authority that uses it, so it is not offered.

A 272.25 sq ft marla is 30.25 square yards. A 225 sq ft marla is 25 square yards. In Pakistan a gaz is usually the same as a square yard, 9 sq ft, and that is how this page counts it.
