    Where it goes

    Storelala

A Storelala store shows your store logo as its favicon, so there is no separate file to upload. Use a plain, square logo that stays clear when it is tiny. This page shows how it will look.

    Shopify

Go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize, open Theme settings and find Favicon (some themes put it under Logo). Choose an image and save. Shopify recommends 32×32 px, so use favicon-32×32.png. Menu names can change with the theme, so search Shopify’s help for “favicon” if you do not see it.

    WordPress

WordPress calls it the Site Icon and wants a square image at least 512×512 px, so use icon-512.png. With a classic theme go to Appearance, Customize, Site Identity, then Select Image under Site Icon. With a block theme, open Appearance, Editor and look for Identity or Site Icon. On WordPress.com it can also be under Settings, General.

    Wix

In your site’s dashboard go to Settings, then Website settings, and upload an image under Favicon. Wix accepts ICO, PNG, JPG or SVG, square and a multiple of 48 px, so favicon.ico or icon-192.png both fit. Wix says this needs a Premium plan, a connected domain and a published site.

    Any other site

Upload every file from the zip to the main folder of your site, then paste the tags above between the head tags of your pages. Browsers keep old favicons for a while, so open the site in a private window to check it.

    Questions

    What is a favicon?

It is the small picture beside your site name in a browser tab, in bookmarks and, on phones, on the home screen. It helps people find your store among many open tabs.

What size should a favicon be?

Browsers show it at 16 × 16 or 32 × 32 pixels, so favicon.ico holds 16, 32 and 48. Add 180 × 180 for the iPhone home screen and 192 × 192 and 512 × 512 for Android. Google asks for a square icon that is a multiple of 48 pixels, which the 48, 192 and 512 files are. This page makes all of them from one design.

How do I add the favicon to my site’s HTML?

Upload every file from the zip to the main folder of your site. Then paste the link tags from this page between the head tags of your pages and save. Browsers keep old icons for a while, so open the site in a private window to check it.

Can I make a favicon from my logo?

Yes. Choose a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG file. A simple, bold logo works best because a favicon is tiny. If your logo has thin lines or a long name, the page warns you and you can use one or two letters instead.

Does it work with Urdu letters?

Yes. Type one or two Urdu letters and the page uses the Nastaliq font. Nastaliq has thin parts, so check the 16 pixel preview. Bold English letters are usually clearer at that size.

    What does the zip contain?

favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions, favicon-16×16.png, favicon-32×32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180), icon-192.png, icon-512.png, site.webmanifest and head-tags.html with the code to paste. The icon file stores each size as a PNG, which current browsers read.

How do I change the favicon on Shopify, WordPress or Wix?

On Shopify, open Online Store, Themes, Customize, Theme settings and find Favicon. On WordPress, use the Site Icon, which must be a square at least 512 × 512 pixels, under Appearance, Customize, Site Identity. On Wix, go to Settings, Website settings and upload it under Favicon, which Wix says needs a Premium plan and a connected domain. Menus change from time to time, so check each platform’s help page if you cannot find the setting. A Storelala store uses your store logo as its favicon.

    Is my logo uploaded?

No. The icons are drawn and zipped inside your browser, and your logo never leaves your device.

Why is the iPhone icon filled with a colour?

iPhones turn see-through areas black on the home screen, so the 180 pixel icon always has a solid background. It uses your shape colour, or white if your logo has no coloured shape. The other sizes keep the shape you chose.
